Star Wars Episode 7: Meet the Cast!

by at .  Updated at . Comments

Earlier today, after months of speculation the cast for Star Wars: Episode VII was announced, and fans have reacted with confusion and frantic Googling, as it seems the film will star very few household names.

Adam Driver
Adam Driver was one of the first to be cast in the long-awaited Star Wars sequel. He's best known for his role on HBO's Girls.

Taking place about 35 years after Return of the Jedi, the highly-anticipated film will feature Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamil and Perter Mayhew returning as older versions of their characters from the original films.

Beyond that, the cast roster is a who's who of up-and-coming indie talent that most Americans have likely never heard of.

Adam Driver, who's rumored to be playing the villain of the as-yet untitled project might be familiar to some for his role as Lena Dunham's boyfriend on the HBO series Girls.

Driver also co-starred with fellow Episode VII castmate Oscar Isaac in the 2013 Coen Brother's film Inside Llewyn Davis.

Seeing as Driver and Isaac are probably the most recognizable of the lot, it seems JJ Abrams intentionally cast the film with virtual unknowns so as to preserve the mystery surrounding the most eagerly-awaited sequel in decades.

Check out our gallery above for a full list of the newly-revealed Episode VII cast.

Feel free to speculate wildly as to what sort of character each actor might be portraying. We recommend throwing "Darth" in front of their names and trying to envision them holding a red light saber.
